Raleigh, North Carolina, United States, October 30, 2008 JASEC deploys Elster’s EnergyAxis® System to improve customer service

Elster, a leader in smart metering and smart grid systems and solutions, announces that Junta Administrativa del Servicio Electrico de Cartago (JASEC) in Cartago, Costa Rica has selected Elster’s EnergyAxis System to modernize its operations and improve customer service. System deployment begins in October 2008, and over the next five years, JASEC anticipates it will deploy Elster’s smart meters across 85 percent of its service area in the city of Cartago.

Luis Gerardo Villanueva Monge, president of the board of directors for JASEC, said, “JASEC’s mission is to provide clean, renewable power, and the best customer service possible. After evaluating several smart metering systems, the EnergyAxis System proved to be the best smart metering technology available that met our business case. JASEC is the first utility in Costa Rica to deploy a smart metering system that allows it to remotely access meters using wireless two way communications.”

JASEC will use the EnergyAxis System to collect customer load profile, demand, and time-of-use (TOU) data to analyze the distribution system and determine where system improvements are needed. Detailed usage data captured by the system will also help JASEC to identify and reduce system losses.

“Elster is delighted that JASEC has selected our proven smart metering technology. Utilities around the world continue to discover the value the EnergyAxis System delivers. Elster’s smart metering technology allows utilities to improve business operations and enhance customer service,” said Sharon Allan, president of Elster Integrated Solutions.
