Second-source meters

Many utilities prefer to use Elster meters for their high quality, accuracy and extensive feature set. Elster offers both C&I and residential meters for non-Elster AMI systems.

Elster recognizes the importance of second source metering to EnergyAxis customers. We are committed to working with other meter suppliers to meet EnergyAxis customer needs.

Elster believes that its revolutionary universal meter concept, the new REXUniversal meter, will promote seamless industry-leading interoperability with multiple AMI networks and emerging Smart Grid standards. With the universal meter concept, the meter can run on different communications platforms without any hardware changes.

Once adopted by multiple vendors, the universal meter concept will enable true interoperability and plug-n-play among different AMI and meter vendors. If, for example, three companies build their meters modeled around the universal meter concept, hardware can be provided by three different vendors for any given compatible AMI network. Additionally, in AMI networks in which universal meters are deployed, utilities can change their AMI networks, while keeping the meters in the event that a particular AMI system vendor offering was no longer desired.

Ester is working with Landis + Gyr to support our communications firmware on their equivalent of the universal meter platform.
